Chapter 6: United

Back at the wrecked clearing where the Mushroom Castle used to stand with pride, Shadow and Peach stood there gazing at the deed of the Chaos Emeralds. Peach looked at it with horror with her hand covering her mouth as Shadow wore his usual serious face.
“So this is where the Chaos Control unleashed its energy.” He thought to himself, “I’ve never seen it act like this before…”
Peach continued to stare at the deserted lot.
“Oh my… The castle… Who would do such a thing?...”
Shadow glanced over to the shocked princess.
“You’re probably wondering what caused all this…” He began. She redirected her attention to the hedgehog.
“The truth is that this was all caused by a battle back in the universe I came from. A battle involving seven powerful gems called the Chaos Emeralds. When they were used by both of the fighters they had collided continuously until they finally conjured the power to tear the border separating our worlds…”
“Wait…” Peach said a little confused, “You came from another universe?”
“…Yes. I’ve been meaning to find the two who are responsible and possibly fix what has been done…” Shadow closed his eyes and shook his head irritated, “I just can’t stand people who do not how to control such power. Especially when leading to events like this…”
Peach didn’t know what to say. There was so much she didn’t know about Shadow and his world. After a brief moment of silence he said.
“Is there anyone left in the town?”
“…I’m not sure… Before the incident a lot of the towns people came to my party. There may have been some who’ve declined my invitations.”
Shadow turned in the direction of Toad Town.
“We should see if there’s anyone left there. Lets go.”
He began to walk.
“Oh…okay…” Peach followed.
Because the castle had been completely destroyed, Shadow felt that it was best not to leave the Princess by herself. For the time being, she had nowhere to go to. Also, leaving her alone may make her an easy hostage for Dr. Robotnik for whatever reason.
It was one of the scenarios Shadow hated the most and not just because it would get in his way.

Within minutes, Sonic, Mario, Luigi, and Tails brought Bolette back to E. Gadd’s Garage. When they brought her inside she couldn’t help but stare at everything.
“Wow, Elvin sure has had his hands full lately… I wonder why he hasn’t made a toilet that plays a song every time it flushes.”
Mario rolled his eyes. The five soon met up with professor E. Gadd again.
“Ah, I see that my map has helped you, yes?”
“Yes but she’s the only person we found so far.” Tails said.
“Could we leave her with you for now? We still have a lot of other people to find and we don’t want to drag her around with us.” Luigi asked.
“Of course I can.” E. Gadd agreed.
“What? Aw, but I want to come with you! It’s so BORING here!” Bolette whined apparently showing no respect to E. Gadd who was right next to her.
“Bolette, it’s important that you stay here with the professor until we find the others from the party. That way, we can focus on searching more while you’re safe at the lab.” Mario explained.
“ But I won’t get in the way! I can help you find them! Pretty please?” She persisted.
“Sorry Bolette but we have to leave. Lets go guys!” Mario and the others left Bolette alone with the inventor.
“Aw man! This is so lame! Whenever something fun happens I have to be left behind just because I’m a girl!” Bolette pouted.
E. Gadd chuckled.
“Now don’t worry Bolette, one day when you grow up you can do all the fun crazy things you ever wanted as a kid I can promise you that.” He returned to his monitors looking over saved projects and blue prints.
“Yeah, but what’s the point if you’re not a kid while doing it. I never want grow up. Not even if-“
Bolette noticed the Missile Bill 9000 on the wooden stand next to the wall.
“Wow… Hey Elvin what’s with the awesome jet thingy-majiggy?”
“What? Oh! That one of my new inventions called Missile Bill 9000. It’s an airborne vehicle that’s capable of going over 9000 miles per hour. It’s still needs a lot of work so please refrain from touching it.” He informed her.
This gave Bolette many ideas. Whenever somebody told her not to touch something then it would deeply encourage her to mess with the object even more. The girl continued to stare at the invention as a new plan began to weave inside her demented brain.

Within an hour, Mario, Luigi, Sonic and Tails had returned more than a dozen people back to Toad Town beneath the starlit sky by searching the marked places on E. Gadd’s map. A lot of commotion rose in the small crowd once they saw the mangled lot where the castle used to be. Tails promised them that he would explain everything as soon as they’ve found all of the people who were still missing.
A little later one of the civilians rushed to Mario and Luigi saying that Yoshi just arrived from Forever Forest with a rabbit and a small blue creature on his back.
The four followed the messenger back to Yoshi and found that Cream and Cheese were the ones on Yoshi’s back.
“Hi Sonic! Hi Tails!” Cream waved.
“Cream!” Tails ran over to them as the others followed as Cream slowly lowered herself off Yoshi with her small blue companion.
“Cream! Cheese! Are you okay?! What happened?” Tails asked.
“We were lost in these scary woods but Yoshi found us and led us out here.”
“Yoshi?” Sonic said confused.
“Oh I’m sorry, this is Yoshi the dinosaur that saved us.”
“Yoshi!”
“We know who Yoshi is. He’s joined us in many of our adventures for years now.” Luigi said.
“It looks like you and Cheese became fast friends with Yoshi.” Speculated Mario.
“Yeah I guess you’re right.” Cream and Cheese smiled sweetly at the dinosaur.
Nearby, Peach and Shadow wandered the crowd until the princess had spotted her hero in red with the others.
“Mario!!” Peach yelled out joyfully as she ran to him. Peach’s exclamation caught everyone’s attention in the streets of Toad Town including Mario’s.
“Peach!” He responded.
The princess grabbed his shoulders and kissed him on the nose as the plumber blushed.
“I was so worried! After the castle was destroyed I had no idea what happened!” The princess cried.
Sonic noticed Shadow nearby watching Peach with his arms folded. He walked over to him with his hands behind his back
“So Shadow, I see you were with the princess just now. What were you doing hanging around with a pretty lady like that?” He asked him with a sly look on his face.
“It’s none of your business Sonic.” He replied sounding annoyed.
“Aw come on. You’re hiding something from me, aren’t you?” Sonic teased.
“I just found her unconscious in the middle of a jungle and got her get to back to this pathetic little town. That’s it…” Shadow told him to get Sonic off his back.
“Oh, so you helped her huh? That’s funny, I don’t remember you having a soft spot for girls.”
“I DON’T.” Shadow mostly lied.
“Cream, Cheese, Sonic, Tails, this is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, or what’s left of it, Princess Peach.” Mario introduced her. Cream made a curtsey to her and politely said.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, your majesty. I’m Cream and this is Cheese.”
“Oh, it’s nice to meet you too, Cream and Cheese.” Peach smiled already taking a liking to the rabbit girl. Peach suddenly heard a familiar voice getting closer in the distance.
“I still can’t believe you would leave a girl in the middle of a freaking desert!”
“Well, you shouldn’t be wandering in the middle of the desert in the first place! It’s your own fault you were stuck there!” Spoke another angry voice.
The group saw Daisy, Knuckles, Amy and Rosalina enter the town.
“For the millionth time, I didn’t get there on purpose! I was just at a party minding my own business and then the next thing I know my face was in the sand!”
“Huh! Maybe you just drank too much at this party of yours.”
“WHY YOU!!” She was about to attack the echidna when Amy grabbed her to make her stop.
“Will you guys just stop fighting already!?”
“Um…Daisy?” Luigi said shyly.
The four looked over to the other group and Daisy quickly pushed Amy away on to the ground.
“Luigi!!!” Daisy ran over to Luigi and tackled him as she kissed his cheek. On the ground Luigi turned red as Mario’s hat and he almost passed out.
“It’s so great to see you again! You had no idea how long I had to put up with that stupid red jerk!”
“No…I…I guess I don’t…” Luigi said feeling dizzy.
Knuckles walked over to Sonic. Already aware of the situation between him and Daisy he asked.
“So, how bad was it?”
“You have no idea…” The echidna moaned.
“SONIC!!!” Amy pushed Knuckles out of the way and hugged him tightly.
“Oh Sonic I was so worried! I’m so glad that you’re okay!! Never leave me again!!”
“That’s great…Amy…you’re hurting me…”
“Well…” Rosalina hovered to the group, “I see that everyone is here now if I’m correct.”
“Who are you?” Tails asked.
“I’m Rosalina and I believe that those who where involved in this mishap may want to be informed on all of this.”
“Oh, okay. We need to get the attention of everyone in Toa-“
Suddenly the ground shook for a brief moment as a low boom sounded. At first everyone thought there was another explosion but then the earth shook a second time with the sound only a little louder than the last. And then a third time.
“AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! OH MY GOD!!!! THERE’S A GIANT METAL BOWSER HEADING TOWARDS TOAD TOWN!!! EVERYONE RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!” Scream a toad. The same toad who ironically was the first to panic when he saw Bowser’s Doom Ship heading towards the castle.
Everyone looked in the direction he was pointing and pandemonium instantly broke loose. All of the citizens were yelling, screaming, and running away from the monster.
The group stared at the machine in the distance with surprise, and shock but mostly, Tails. He knew that robotic design anywhere. Even if it resembled someone he never even met.
“Oh my gosh…” he muttered. “That’s…That’s Robotinik’s design!!”
Mario and Luigi turned to the fox surprised again.
“Who’s Robotnik?” Daisy asked.
“There’s no time to explain! You all have to get to safety right now!”
“What!? No way!” Amy put her hands on her hips, “There’s no way I’m leaving my Sonic again! Especially after what just happened with Chaos Control!”
“Amy, please! This is not the time to argue! Just hide with the others while Sonic, Mario, Luigi, and I take care of this!” Begged the Fox.
“What?” Daisy stepped in, “You want US to hide and miss out on all the action? You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for a day like this!”
“Hey Knuckles, you think you can get these two to safety while we deal with the Egghead?” Sonic said pointing at the Bowser in the distance behind them with his thumb.
“Sure. You guys go ahead I take care of them.” The echidna assured.
“Thanks buddy.”
“Don’t mention it. Alright, lets get you out of here!” He picked up both Amy and Daisy over his shoulders and started to walk away.
“Hey! Knuckles put me down!! I mean it!!!” Amy thrashed in futile.
“PUT ME DOWN YOU LITTLE RED RAT!!! I WANNA SEE ALL THE GIANT MONSTER ACTION!!!” Daisy pounded on his back. Mario walked over to Yoshi.
“You go with them and make sure they get out of here safely okay Yoshi?”
“Yoshi! Yoshi!”
The green dinosaur ushered Cream, Peach, and Cheese along Knuckles as Rosalina and her luma followed.
“Good luck you guys…” Cream wished them.
“Please be careful, Mario.” Peach told Mario.
“I will Princess.”
Shadow walked over to the remaining four.
“I’m coming with you, Sonic. Since Eggman is involved in this and if he really is the one who started this whole mess, then I’d like to deal with the old man myself.”
Sonic chuckled.
“Okay then. Whatever you say, old buddy.”
“DON’T call me buddy…”
A few minutes later the five defenders step before the twisted metal behemoth just outside of Toad Town with Luigi being the most shaken by fear. Surprisingly, the Mecha Bowser halts before them and a brief silence is followed. Then the red eyes of the machine became clear windows revealing the two villains inside.
“Well, well, well, well, well, well, well, if it isn’t the puny little heroes Sonic, Tails, Mario, Luigi, Oh! And Shadow too! I didn’t know that you tagged along for the ride too, Shadow.” Robotnik remarked.
The five were surprised to see both Bowser and Eggman/Robotnik through the eyes of the machine.
“So this is the fox and blue hedgehog you were talking about, huh? I don’t see why you have such a problem with them Eggman. They look pretty puny to me.” Bowser chuckled.
Angry, Shadow began to speak up to the Doctor.
“Eggman!” He yelled, “Explain yourself! It was you who created the Chaos Control on purpose wasn’t it?!”
“Well, I see that you catch on quite quickly Shadow now don’t you?” He mocked him.
Mario stepped over to Sonic and muttered.
“You see that turtle with the horns up there? That’s our archenemy Bowser! He’s been trying to take over my world too.”
“Really?”
Mario nodded.
“Why Eggman?!” Tails exclaimed, “Why did you do it!? Because of the Chaos Control, you completely destroyed their castle and endangered their lives!”
“Why my little fox I’m so glad you asked. This was all a part of my brilliant plan to collaborate with Bowser to rid of archenemies once and for all.
“You see, a while ago when I came back to my headquarters from yet another defeat I decided that it was time for me to look for another world for me to conquer. One that did not consist you, Sonic, or any of his pesky little friends. I was able to create a small machine that would be able to delve in to the next dimension and back to view the other world for me with the help of a couple of Chaos Emeralds. Of course two was not enough to warp me and my robot army to this world so I decided to see what the kingdom had to offer before my invasion. As I probed the Mushroom Kingdom I came across my soon to be ally, Bowser being defeated by his nemesis Mario repeatedly over and over again failure after failure loss over loss with absolutely no-“
“OKAY! OKAY!! THEY GET IT ALREADY!!” Bowser roared angrily, “JUST GET ON WITH IT!!!”
“Ahem, anyway. After realizing that Bowser and I had this thing in common I decided to reprogram my probing device in order to communicate with him. He was quite baffled at first at my outstanding technology, but as I offered my alliance with him in order to rid of Mario once and for all, he instantly accepted. After our alliance was made we formulated a plan to bring Sonic and all of his little friends to the Mushroom Kingdom so Bowser and I could join forces in order to crush pests once and for all!
“Although I do admit that I had planned to perform a Chaos Control in the first place. And in order to do that I needed the other three emeralds Sonic had. So I inserted my four emeralds into Metal Sonic to get them from Sonic. But then it hit me. I didn’t need the other three emeralds for Chaos Control if Sonic and Metal would do all the work for me. Then after I reprogrammed Metal Sonic into fighting Sonic head on, all I had to do was watch everything fall into place. Too bad Tails didn’t find out in time or MAYBE this course of events would have never taken place. I see now that I have explained how this came to be, that you’re all baffled by my pure geni-”
“Yeah! Yeah! They get it already! Sheesh, you’re going to put us all to sleep! Now can we please do what we came here for?!” Bowser growled impatiently.
“What? Oh yes! Of course! How could I forget…” Robotnik pressed a button and activated the machine’s heat seeking function. In the distance in the woods near where Peach’s Castle used to be a handful of orange figures appeared on the screen. He then pressed another key to activate the x-ray vision to make sure that he was looking at their goal. The shapes instantly gained definition and the group the four heroes sent to take cover from the Mecha Bowser came into view. Eggman zoomed in on Princess Peach.
“Ah, there she is…”
The metal giant suddenly leaped into the air over Toad Town and landed in the clearing. The ground shook so violently that everyone standing on it either lost their balance for a brief moment or fell over. Mecha Bowser tore the trees from the earth and exposed the group beneath the canopy. All of the refugees looked up at the colossal in fear.
“Come to Doctor!” The monster’s giant claw grabbed Princess Peach off of the ground like a rag doll as she screamed.
“Oh no!” Tails cried. “The Princess!”
“Peach!” Mario called out.
Shadow watched the scene, with his eyes widened in horror as his mouth gaped open. Tragic memories of the past came back to haunt him.
Maria getting shot from behind, bullets shooting straight through her, scarlet blood spraying from her very chest!
“No! No! Not again! This can’t happen again!! MARIA!!!” He thought.
But then he tightened his fists and an angered look appeared on his face.
“…No… NEVER AGAIN!!!”
Before the others could react to the situation, Shadow vanished in a flash of light and reappeared above the arm gripping Peach.
“What the- Shadow?!” Robotnik uttered caught off guard.
A lance of orange light formed next to Shadow as he raised his right hand.
“Chaos…”
He swung his arm down and the lance shot through the metal arm.
“SPEAR!!!”
It made a small explosion and made the machine release the princess. As she fell screaming Shadow reappeared next to her, grabbed her and teleported safely back on the ground with Peach in his arms. She looked bewildered at the black hedgehog.
“Sh…Shadow?...”
Robotnik grew furious.
“Enough of this! Let’s blast this pest away!”
“Rodger!” Bowser agreed. The villains launched missiles at the pair from Mecha’s shell but before they could hit them and explode, they disappeared in Shadow’s white flash.
“Great… Now where did they go-“ Bowser was interrupted when the cockpit of machine jerked unexpectedly and he lost his balance. Eggman got back in his chair. It turned out that it was Sonic being launched by Mario’s hammer.
“Aw, great. You again…”
“You’re fight is with us, Eggman!” said the blue hedgehog, “Leave the princess out of this!”
“Well, I guess now we have no other choice. We’ve gotta fight them now, Bowser.”
“Great. Just great. Our plan was going so well until too. Stupid red and black Sonic…” Bowser rubbed his head.
The rest of the group Peach was with was still there.
“I’ll stay here and help them out! You guys gotta get out of here while they’re distracted!” Knuckles whispered.
“But what about-Don’t worry about them! They’ll be fine!” He assured Cream.
“Rosalina, can you make sure they get out of here safely?”
“But of course…”
“Good! Now get out here!” Knuckles dashed away.
“Well you heard him…” Rosalina turned to the group, “Let’s leave this place.” Daisy folded her arms.
“No fair. HE gets to have all the fun…”
After Sonic dodged a punch from the colossal Knuckles appeared at his side.
“Hey Knuckles! Here to join the party?” He glanced at the echidna.
“You bet!”
They leaped out of the way of a second punch. Sonic called upon the rest of his allies.
“C’mon guys! Let’s show them the REAL meaning of teamwork!”
“Alright then, lets-a go!”

Back at E. Gadd’s Garage, the professor and Bolette had been watching the action from his built in surveillance cameras around the clearing.
“My, my! Bowser has certainly out done himself this time! Why, I never knew he had such engineering skills! In fact, it looks like he didn’t make it at all! By another gifted engineer perhaps? I doubt it!”
Bolette stared at the giant mechanical monster fighting its five adversaries.
“Coooooooool….”
There was a dinging sound in the other room.
“Oh what do you know! My biscuits are done! I’m going to take them out to cool down. Now don’t touch any thing while I’m gone.” The professor told her.
“Yeah sure whatever…”
As soon as Elvin left the room Bolette looked at the Missile Bill 9000 again with a sly expression on her face.

Luigi’s hammer struck down hard on the head of the robot as Tails threw him down in the air. The Mecha Bowser retaliated by breathing fire in Tails direction but the fox dodged it as Knuckles bore small dent in its chest. Robotnik growled in frustration.
“It wasn’t supposed to go like this! We’ve should’ve been able to kidnap that girl easily and to lure them into our trap! If that Shadow hadn’t butted in then everything would’ve gone according to plan!”
“Well, to me kidnapping is as regular as breathing! If I can do it so easily then I can’t see why you can’t do it at all!” Bowser sassed.
“JUST SHUT UP AND KEEP PRESSING BUTTONS!!!”
When Sonic charged his spin attack Mario jumped into it to create a bigger, stronger, fiery, ball of red and blue. He had used this technique with his brother before and thought it would be clever to combine it with Sonic’s spin attack. The flaming orb was launched at the Mecha Bowser but it reacted by swatting it away with its claw. Luigi struck the ball of fire with his hammer back at the robot, then it got swat away again. Then Knuckles threw a massive punch at the ball with all his might and this time it hit Mecha Bowser in the chest causing it to topple over into the trees. The ball landed back on to the ground and diffused into Mario and Sonic again. Before struggling to its feet Mecha Bowser shot three heat seeking missiles from its mouth at its opponents. As two over them began to chase Mario and Luigi Sonic grabbed them both dashing from the one chasing him. With all three missiles on their tail Sonic leaped high into the air. To get rid of the missiles, Knuckles hoisted up a large tree and threw it at the missiles causing them to explode. The explosion blew the three away but Tails caught them and slowly lowered them safely onto the ground. Mecha Bowser breathed fire again from towards the sky to into the ground. All of them avoided the attack except for Luigi who got his butt burned.
The head of Mecha Bowser jerked violently again as Knuckles punched and Sonic struck it with a homing attack.
“That’s it!!” Eggman yelled enraged, “I’ve had enough of this nonsense! It’s time we finished this!” The doctor pulled a large lever and the metal giant leaped high up into the air.
“What!? We’re going to use our secret weapon already?! Are you nuts?!” Bowser barked at him.
“Shut up! I know what I’m doing!” The legs of the Mecha Bowser retracted into its shell and two jets of fire suspended the titan in mid air. Then its chest opened up to reveal an enormous bomb-omb. Robotnik laughed into the speaker and said.
“You think you pests have won, have you? Well think again! Once we light this giant explosive and drop it to the ground you and your little friends will be done for!!”
“Oh no! We’ve got to get out of here guys!” Sonic exclaimed. The others agreed but Tails had his eyes fixed on something else in the sky.
“Tails what are you doing?! We’ve gotta get out of here right now!!” Knuckles shouted at him.
“Wait…that jet…” He muttered, “…isn’t that…”
Then suddenly, without warning, a black object resembling a long missile shot itself straight through the chest of Mecha Bowser lighting the bomb-omb and blowing up the huge machine in midair.

Well this is a pretty nice cliffhanger right here. If you figured out what that thing was that caused Mecha Bowser to explode then you deserve a cookie. Feel free to post what it is, it's pretty obvious.
I really like what I did with Shadow both in the artwork and the story. Normally, Peach would easily get kidnapped as they protagonists just stare and do nothing as they get away and the villains would use her as bait to lure the heroes into their obvious trap. Well NOT THIS TIME!!! Remember, this is MY story! I and I'm kind of SICK of all the helpless female characters getting captured all the time to make the STRONG HEROIC MALE CHARACTERS come to save them because women are completely incapable of saving themselves!
"Oh no! I've been kidnapped by an evil villain! If only there was a MAN around that could save me from this horrible prison instead of me using my brain to escape on my own!"
Now I know that Peach can't helped but get captured all the time for some reason and the idea was pretty cool when I grew up, but now it's becoming a tired and an incredibly overused way to create a plot in a story. The only thing it does now is show that women are completely powerless without a MAN around! I know I used a male character to prevent these turn of events, but at least I'm not letting the whole "save the princess" thing becoming the soul objective of the protagonists!
Alright, sorry for the rant I just had to get that out of my system. Anyway, speaking of women I like how I made Daisy differ from Peach a lot in my story. Especially, considering that her personality is basically presented in the Mario game spin-offs. I guess I have the artists of deviantart to thank for giving her one. And I'm also glad that I finally had Eggman, being the ego-tastic villain that he is, reveal how his alliance to Bowser came to be other than just being video game villains. Originally, I was going to have the Chaos Control be an accident and have Bowser and Robotnik meet for the first time.
Alright, I'm going to wrap this up but I'd like to ask you all one thing.

Which name do you like better? Eggman or Robotnik ? I honestly can't decide because I know Robotnik is his original name, but I also grew up with calling him Eggman. So can you all post which name you like better so I can choose one already? Thank you.
